Nokia to launch Pakistan’s navigational map on its handsets


Nokia will launch a comprehensive navigational map of Pakistan with its accurate street-to-street images and information in national and local languages, Imran Mehmood General Manager Nokia Pakistan said.

Speaking to the award ceremony “Calling All Innovators Pakistan 2010” on Monday, he said Nokia’s strategy is to localize the content of the mobile phone application for its valued customers in order to facilitate million-user market.

Nokia is committed to provide user-friendly apps to all its Pakistani customers in its gadgets, which include Urdu SMS, Urdu Email and various different tools in local and regional languages.

He mentioned the Pakistan is the third country among the world with highest traffic of SMS among the customers.

Pakistan is the country of the interactive and fun-loving people who downloaded more than 4.5 million tools recently on their handsets.

In its presentation, he provided statistics of number of applications frequently used by Pakistani customers.

–          The audios and videos of Quran recitation were downloaded about 86,000 bytes.

–          High Speed Games were downloaded about 66,000 bytes.

–          Ebody and Nib tools were downloaded 55,000 and 50,000 bytes recently.

Nokia is developing utility bills payment apps in all its devices in order to facilitate its customers with the emerging mobile apps of mobile banking.

Nokia chief said the use of mobile handset for social networking sites is frequent in Pakistan besides the emerging print and electronic media applications on the gadgets. Geo, Jang, Dawn and Express all have onboard with Nokia.

Local Content Developers

Imran Mehmood, General Manger Pakistan said Calling All Innovators is the platform for local content developers who will not only channelize their potential through it but also they will be provided complete access to Nokia Ovi stores, where they could earn handsome returns from their creations.

There is a huge talent in Pakistan in the field of content development with the big space for them to market the product.

Nokia will encourage all content developers to its doorstep to work hand-in-hand for localization of mobile apps in the Pakistan telecom market.
